September was chosen for Orange Shirt Day as it was the time of the year that children were taken to residential schools. Wearing and Orange Shirt helps brings awareness to the concerns surrounding residential schools and the last effects they have had on the Native American community. 
 
Each shirt purchased helps give a shirt to Native Education High School Students in my school District.
